Yesterday in our service we turned our attention toward finding, discovering what the “something more” that Tom Brady and so many of us feel like must be out there. But most of us are like really bad Easter egg hunters…we go right by the things that God has for us because we can’t see what he sees. And that is key…because he sees them all. He knows where to point us. Fortunately, he doesn’t give up on us or forsake us even when we keep stumbling around.
Proverbs 29:18 reads this way in The Message paraphrase: If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.
God wants to give us true 20/20 vision. We will never find the something more we are looking for without this enhanced spiritual vision. Spiritual eyesight gives us spiritual insight. Why is it that most people will never see God do extraordinary things in their lives. It is not because God is unwilling or unable. It is the lack of clear vision and unbelief.
As long as we’re looking for the “something more” that’s missing in our own power, we’re a lot like someone standing in front of one of those carnival mirrors that completely distorts the reality of what you’re looking at. It can be fun for a while, but it’s not real…it’s make believe. We can sometimes find the “something more” that we think we’re looking for, but what we’ve probably found is a distortion, a mockery of what God knows is real. It may even be fun for a while, but it won’t last.
If we want to know what’s real, we have to step away from the carnival mirror and stand before the true mirror of God’s Word. And through the light of God’s Word, and the vision we receive from that, we can recover from our stumbling around and begin to see what God sees. And then God will begin to point us toward what we are really searching for. But it won’t happen overnight…in fact it will most likely take time.
Isaiah 40:31 tells us, “But they who wait upon the Lord will get new strength. They will rise up with wings like eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not become weak.”
We will never have the power to rise up to our destiny until we learn to wait on God. And waiting is NOT a passive activity. It requires that we engage our hearts with God’s will, from which our vision must flow. God sees what we can become and what we can contribute. He also knows that doing so will become the “something more” that we are looking for. And when we learn to see what God sees, we will begin to see what he has for us and how to get there.

Yesterday in our service we turned our attention toward finding, discovering what the “something more” that Tom Brady and so many of us feel like must be out there. But most of us are like really bad Easter egg hunters…we go right by the things that God has for us because we can’t see what he sees. And that is key…because he sees them all. He knows where to point us. Fortunately, he doesn’t give up on us or forsake us even when we keep stumbling around.
Proverbs 29:18 reads this way in The Message paraphrase: If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.
God wants to give us true 20/20 vision. We will never find the something more we are looking for without this enhanced spiritual vision. Spiritual eyesight gives us spiritual insight. Why is it that most people will never see God do extraordinary things in their lives. It is not because God is unwilling or unable. It is the lack of clear vision and unbelief.
As long as we’re looking for the “something more” that’s missing in our own power, we’re a lot like someone standing in front of one of those carnival mirrors that completely distorts the reality of what you’re looking at. It can be fun for a while, but it’s not real…it’s make believe. We can sometimes find the “something more” that we think we’re looking for, but what we’ve probably found is a distortion, a mockery of what God knows is real. It may even be fun for a while, but it won’t last.
If we want to know what’s real, we have to step away from the carnival mirror and stand before the true mirror of God’s Word. And through the light of God’s Word, and the vision we receive from that, we can recover from our stumbling around and begin to see what God sees. And then God will begin to point us toward what we are really searching for. But it won’t happen overnight…in fact it will most likely take time.
Isaiah 40:31 tells us, “But they who wait upon the Lord will get new strength. They will rise up with wings like eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not become weak.”
We will never have the power to rise up to our destiny until we learn to wait on God. And waiting is NOT a passive activity. It requires that we engage our hearts with God’s will, from which our vision must flow. God sees what we can become and what we can contribute. He also knows that doing so will become the “something more” that we are looking for. And when we learn to see what God sees, we will begin to see what he has for us and how to get there.
