We left off last week with a potentially searing question to the heart of every man in relation to his kingdom:

So how is your kingdom? How is the king in you doing? How’s it at your house, in your little realm? What kind of leader are you? Is there a sweet aroma of contentment? Or is your home characterized by the sour taste of bitterness? Are the “citizens” secure? Is there peace? Is there laughter in the hallways? Is everyone glad to know the king is in his castle? Or would they, frankly, prefer a revolt? Is your home a little taste of heaven, or is it hell on earth?

The answer to this question will indicate the type of leadership (or lack thereof) you have exercised in your home. This comes down to a question of authority and authority seems to be a real sticking point in today’s culture. This is how Stu Weber addresses this question of authority:

Authority is the bottom line of the universe. It is the inevitable first question. Who’s in charge here?! It is the first answer. Rebellion against it started the first war—on a cosmic scale—just as it has started every war since, whether global or local, physical or spiritual, marital or personal. My bracket took a hit this afternoon as Texas looked like they were slow-dancing while Memphis was doing the jitterbug….all over their face. That hurt me but if Kansas wins, I’ll still have 3 of the final 4. As much as I want my bracket to stay as strong as it can, I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be greatly upset if Davidson pulls the upset. What an awesome story that would be, huh?

As a fan of music, we decided to watch “The Next Great American Band” last summer as a family. DMHO was on that show. They remind me of some of the old Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire music of the ’70s with all the brass. Really cool sound that you don’t hear very often anymore. We’re going with a group of friends from The Grove. It should be great fun. I’ll miss the end of the Davidson/KU game, but I’m good with whichever way it turns out.

(By the way, this may be the only post in history that ever combines the NCAA Tournament and DMHO)

I just finished watching “To End All Wars”, a movie retelling the true story of POWs who endure horrible treatment from their Japanese captors during WW II while being forced to build a railroad through the Burmese jungle. They find freedom through forgiveness. It is based on the true story of Ernest Gordon.

As with any POW-based movie it is often difficult to watch. What makes it all the more difficult to watch is knowing that it is true, not a figment of someones story-telling imagination. But while it may be difficult to watch, there are themes and lessons that are too powerful to describe…they simply must be seen and felt. This movie is deeply moving and just may affect your life.

I just finished watching “To End All Wars”, a movie retelling the true story of POWs who endure horrible treatment from their Japanese captors during WW II while being forced to build a railroad through the Burmese jungle. They find freedom through forgiveness. It is based on the true story of Ernest Gordon.

As with any POW-based movie it is often difficult to watch. What makes it all the more difficult to watch is knowing that it is true, not a figment of someones story-telling imagination. But while it may be difficult to watch, there are themes and lessons that are too powerful to describe…they simply must be seen and felt. This movie is deeply moving and just may affect your life.

The Sweet 16 have been whittled down to the Elite 8 and before the weekend is over, we’ll have our Final Four. I don’t know if this will hold through the weekend or through the end of the tournament…..

THE DOEBLER HOUSEHOLD IS 1-2-3 in the Coach’s Corner Standings.

That’s right, my offspring and myself hold the first three spots. I’m getting a little misty-eyed just thinking about it. Brandon, my youngest (although 14 isn’t as young as it used to be) is in 1st. I’m holding down slot #2 (I’m still going to win though), and Zach, my eldest (17 and growing) is in third. This is a Kodak moment….the kind of moment that every self-respecting father dreams of. Sniff, Sniff. And I’m proud that you could all share this glorious moment with me.

Now, it’s off to clean toilets somewhere…and other non-glamorous duties.
