American Idol - Final 12 Rankings (Pre-Game)

OK, tomorrow night kicks off the real competition. It’s time for the gloves to come off and the cleats (or pleats in this case) to go on. So in the spirit of competition, it’s time to roll out the power rankings. In other words, these are my predictions for who will leave spike marks on whose back. (You never knew vocals could be so violent, did you?) So here goes:

1. David “Aw Shucks” Archuleta

Strengths
Overall like-ability; raspy-edged mature voice; speed-dial teen girl fans, confident performer, “aw shucks” personality
Weaknesses
Too low-key so far, front-runner status can be disadvantage

1. Brooke “I Dare You Simon” White

Strengths
Totally unique among all the women, strongly reminiscent of Carly Simon (which can NEVER be a bad thing), underestimated
Weaknesses
Whole new world for a girl that has never even seen an R-rated movie(although I admire that), environment and experience may catch up to her and overwhelm her

2. Michael “Double D” Johns - “Dingo Dude”

Strengths
An Australian accent (always a plus), a strong voice, ability to do “foreign songs” well
Weaknesses
Is either really good, or just average, still hasn’t risen to the level of his “Bohemian Rhapsody” standard since then

2. Carly “Take 2″ Smithson

Strengths
Incredibly strong voice, LOTS of experience
Weaknesses
A previous contract, too MUCH experience, I think voters will eventually think twice before giving her the win because of it

3. David “Help Me With My Hair” Cook

Strengths
Has the most “edge” to his voice of any of the dudes left, seems to be comfortable with himself, benefitted by comparison to Carrico
Weaknesses
Demeanor, dude just doesn’t seem to be “in it”, May be trying too hard to be cool with an “I don’t care” ‘tude.

3. Syesha Mercado

Strengths
Winning personality, good vocals
Weaknesses
Seems a bit frail and sickness-prone, not particularly distinctive which could drop her lower unless voters find something more to latch onto

4. Jason “Dreading It” Castro

Strengths
Like-ability, uniqueness, folksy
Weaknesses
Doesn’t have a real strong voice, still not completely sure of himself as a performer

4. Amanda Overmyer “The Rock n Roll Nurse”

Strengths
Like Brooke W, she is VERY unique, appeals to a voting segment no one else does
Weaknesses
Like her style, but probably to one-dimensional, not enough range in her voice

5. David “Busted” Hernandez

Strengths
Strong voice, confident performer
Weaknesses
His past history will most likely make his stay a short one

5. Ramiele Malubay “Barbie”

Strengths
Pretty good voice, strong support from Asian community (which could move her past Overmyer), very likable
Weaknesses
Poor song selection, shyness, Lack of confidence while performing

6. Chikezie “Cheezit”

Strengths
Luther Van Dross vibe
Weaknesses
Luther Van Dross vibe

6. Kristy Lee Cook “KLC”

Strengths
Looks, nice personality, country appeal (probably the only one with that niche in the competition)
Weaknesses
Not a very strong voice, seems a bit uncomfortable with herself, doesn’t seem to want to “compete” (which she will have to in order to stay in it any further)

I think anyone in the bottom 2 on either side could easily be the first to go. It will come down to the first round of performances. Out of those four, Hernandez has the best voice, but his fate will depend on how people respond to the news of his previous activities. Since this is a fairly “family friendly” program with those types of viewers, I think it will hurt him. The least confident performer is Malubay Barbie, but she’s capable of surprising. So, it all comes down to who will hold up under the pressure. Should be fun.
