Lesley and I went to one of our Greenhouse Groups last night (the name for our small groups) and we got involved in a discussion about our teenagers who attended a Dare2Share event in Chicago over the weekend. Tim & Brooke (who took them up) were at the group and told us how much they were challenged by the teens. Early in the evening on Friday night, the teens were given a double dare….pick a name of someone they would like to see come to faith in Christ and pray for them….right now. The entire arena (about 5000 teens strong) went silent as they all began to pray for friends who need Jesus. At the end of the prayer…the speaker said, “Alright…now call them. RIGHT NOW!” And without hesitation, 5000 teens began dialing….not for dollars…but for the souls of their friends. With courage, conviction, and care, they began to express the love of Jesus and the hope of salvation to their friends on the spot.
Then, as they left, they were given a “48 HOUR CHALLENGE”. GREG STIER challenged them with this fact - If you don’t follow-up with someone within 48 hours, you probably won’t do it at all. Yesterday afternoon, my oldest son Zach, with Bible in hand, was working on who he needed to touch base with.
Brooke and Tim as well as myself have been challenged by the courage of our teens. How many of you would have the same courage? How many of you have someone that you pray for regularly to come to faith? When is the last time you picked up the phone to talk to them about it? We NEED to pray. Boy do we need to pray. But prayer often requires some action to accompany it. Are we willing to be as brave as our teenagers?
Who do you need to call………RIGHT NOW?….The clock is ticking!
