In the Locker Room, June 15
Today was Father’s Day. In churches all across America, men who rarely come are there because it’s a special day. And in far too many churches, they are told what they are not, and what they should be. They are criticized instead of encouraged. They are rebuked instead of coached. And it is killing men… and ultimately their families. Most of us men don’t need to be reminded of what we are not… we already know. So rather than take the opportunity provided to give hope and direction to our men, we throw them under the bus in one of our rare chances to reach them. I pray for the men of our country…the men of our churches. Our world needs the kind of men that God can turn them into, but it will take the power of God and the patience of leaders.
We did not have a special Father’s Day service today since men are the regular focus of much of what we do. But we did have a special challenge to our men at the end of the service during our men’s huddle. What we did do today was have our first video service in conjunction with ONE PRAYER.
OP is the brainchild of Craig Groeschel and Lifechurch.tv. We are partnering with over 1300 churches during June to remind ourselves that in spite of some differences, we still share one faith and one Lord, in whom is our salvation. We watched a video message from of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC. And in the old-fashioned language of the south….Steven Furtick HE BRUNG IT! HE SHUCKED THE CORN! His message was powerful and convicting as he recounted the audacious faith of Jonathon in the book of Samuel as he and his armor bearer went to take on a suicide mission unless God showed up on their behalf. It is audacious faith that allows God to show himself strong. It is audacious faith that honors God with a belief that his promises are strong enough to stand on. We are being challenged at The Grove right now to stretch ourselves for what lies ahead. i was inspired and I believe those in attendance today were as well.
We’re ready to GO B.I.G. and “Perhaps….God will show himself on our behalf”.
