In The Locker Room, June 22
The locker room was smokin’ awesome today. This was the third Sunday in the One Prayer series. I continue to be amazed at what God is doing through this series. With over 1400 churches participating around the world, God is bringing his children together in remarkable ways. We may never agree on everything, but that’s not the point. We agree on the fact that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and that he is the only means of salvation. So, we celebrate that and work toward bringing more people into the kingdom of God.
BIG DAY TODAY
This morning, we watched a video from Craig Groeschel, pastor of LifeChurch.tv Groeschel is the creative point of origin behind One Prayer. His message was based on his prayer for the church, “Lord, Make Us One!”
For too long, Chrisitans have worked in isolation — marked more by our differences, than what we have in common. We slam churches that are not our own. We criticize styles that are not our preference. We criticize what we do not understand. And there will always be things between us we don’t understand. But what if we concentrated on the things that we do understand… the things we agree on… the things we have in common? Things would change dramatically. But how do we get there?
Here’s what Groeschel suggested we agree on:
- We have one common enemy
- Families may squabble from time to time. But when someone else threatens another member of the family, watch out. We should do the same. We all have the same enemy. He’s trying to destroy us all. It’s time to close ranks.
- We need one heart
- We need one purpose
- This one struck me particularly. Yes, we know the Great Commission. And it IS our common purpose. But the place we gather to “go to church” is NOT the church. The church is those who have gathered. And it is the church that exists to reach those who are not already part of the church. Regardless of styles, regardless of preferences… we have a purpose that binds us togehter… to win the world to Jesus Christ.
Our people clapped when Groeschel finished. Yes, it was a video message. But the power of a message is not hindered by it’s method of delivery.
