In the Locker Room, Sept 21

Sitting here in the early morning reflecting back on the weekend’s events…to say it was an interesting weekend would be an understatement.

  • Saturday morning arrived with a great deal of work to be done.  You never know how many will show up to take care of what needs to be done, but our team turned out in great numbers.
  • We hung 800 door hangers in the neighborhoods surrounding Second Chance Church.  (That’s a lot of doors).
  • We got a number of large items moved/removed from the restaurant side of our building.  It is now clean enough to be used if necessary, and is presentable for people to see.
  • Sunday morning arrived without the presence of our new assistant, Coach Bob.  After 20 years of living in the same neighborhood in WI, their family returned to participate in a 50th birthday party for Michelle.  I am so pleased that they were able to go and celebrate with all their family and friends from home……however, I missed having Coach Bob here to handle the service with me.  I have come to depend on him quickly.
  • I sensed in a real way during the early part of the service yesterday that we were encountering spiritual warfare right then and there.  It’s fascinating to me that such a thing could happen.  But the front doors are no barrier for Satan… he feels free to walk right in.  And I’m sure he’s a frequent guest in many churches.  What better place to stir it up and to distract than right there in the church.  But we prayed that God would  be bigger and that HIS presence would press out our spiritual enemy.
  • We celebrated communion together on our last Sunday before the Grand Re-Opening.  It seems to me that Jesus took a similar route when he instituted this practice with his disciples.  It was almost like he gathered his team in the locker room before the big event to remind them why they were doing what they were doing…that his work would soon be done… and that they held the outcome of the mission in their hands.
  • Sunday afternoon, we gathered in the Kenser’s backyard to watch and celebrate 16 people getting baptized.  WOW!  What an amazing and moving experience to see that many people declare to the world that Jesus Christ is their Savior and they have given their lives to him.

So now we enter the home stretch - the final week of preparation.  But the first day of the week has set us off on a great track for getting it done.

Sitting here in the early morning reflecting back on the weekend’s events…to say it was an interesting weekend would be an understatement.

  • Saturday morning arrived with a great deal of work to be done.  You never know how many will show up to take care of what needs to be done, but our team turned out in great numbers.
  • We hung 800 door hangers in the neighborhoods surrounding Second Chance Church.  (That’s a lot of doors).
  • We got a number of large items moved/removed from the restaurant side of our building.  It is now clean enough to be used if necessary, and is presentable for people to see.
  • Sunday morning arrived without the presence of our new assistant, Coach Bob.  After 20 years of living in the same neighborhood in WI, their family returned to participate in a 50th birthday party for Michelle.  I am so pleased that they were able to go and celebrate with all their family and friends from home……however, I missed having Coach Bob here to handle the service with me.  I have come to depend on him quickly.
  • I sensed in a real way during the early part of the service yesterday that we were encountering spiritual warfare right then and there.  It’s fascinating to me that such a thing could happen.  But the front doors are no barrier for Satan… he feels free to walk right in.  And I’m sure he’s a frequent guest in many churches.  What better place to stir it up and to distract than right there in the church.  But we prayed that God would  be bigger and that HIS presence would press out our spiritual enemy.
  • We celebrated communion together on our last Sunday before the Grand Re-Opening.  It seems to me that Jesus took a similar route when he instituted this practice with his disciples.  It was almost like he gathered his team in the locker room before the big event to remind them why they were doing what they were doing…that his work would soon be done… and that they held the outcome of the mission in their hands.
  • Sunday afternoon, we gathered in the Kenser’s backyard to watch and celebrate 16 people getting baptized.  WOW!  What an amazing and moving experience to see that many people declare to the world that Jesus Christ is their Savior and they have given their lives to him.

So now we enter the home stretch - the final week of preparation.  But the first day of the week has set us off on a great track for getting it done.
