It looks like Pixar can do no wrong. This animated movie is worlds apart from their previous offerings. WALL.E is set in a bleak future earth where everyone has left and is now living in space because of the accumulation of trash. So the backdrop for this movie is not exactly fun and games. Add to that the fact that there is very little dialogue and it is somewhat stunning that this movie is so well received by every age group. That’s not to say that it shouldn’t be. It is amazing how the very human emotions of joy, loneliness and love can be so clearly communicated by animated robots.

It was 1981 when we all decided that it would be cool to be an archeologist. That was the year we all met Indiana Jones. There may have been a character like his that came before, but not in my lifetime. Indiana Jones was the first of his genre for me… and for millions in my age group. And at about the same time the decade was coming to a conclusion, so did our adventure with Indy. Or at least we thought so. But apparently, Indy, like skinny ties, is making a comeback.

Last night our family enjoyed an evening at home watching a movie we had really wanted to see in the theatre…. but with ticket prices being what they are and popcorn buckets costing $6, we rarely go. We wait for the DVD and enjoy it at home. At least here we can pause for a […]

Tonight is the conclusion to the season-long competition. If you’ve been a regular reader of my thoughts on AI or on this blog in general, you know that I love competition. I thrive on it. AI is a great blend of things I enjoy… competition, music, and a little sport. That’s […]

It’s the round we’ve all been waiting for. This is the one that will determine this year’s belt holder… the 2008 AI Champion. It seems a bit of a mismatch. If this were a real boxing match, the tale of the tape would look pretty ugly for David Archuleta. I think […]

We have reached the championship round of AI Season 7. As with any competitive endeavor, when you get to the championship, you are always faced with the question of whether or not you have the best in the finals. I have compared this competition to a boxing match the entire season and we […]

Our family went to see Prince Caspian early this evening. We had the chance to see it for free. We received an invitation from the Hult Education Center here in Peoria to view it and so we took advantage of the opportunity. While the first installment of this series received high marks from everyone in […]

Last night gave us three songs each to compare the final three contestants. Here’s my recap from last night. (you can read the entire post here)
Archuleta did what he does best - he sang ballads well. But he also showed how limited he is with a very mediocre effort on the Chris Brown song.
Mercado […]

I have made my stand in my pre-round rankings about who I think finishes where. I have held to a David vs David finale for a while now, but something about the emergence of Syesha combined with the redundancy of Archuleta has me thinking that DA is susceptible to the sucker punch. With […]

It’s hard to believe that there are only two weeks left in one of the more enjoyable competitions on TV. AI always seems to speed by, although this has not exactly been the most exciting season ever. AI has suffered this year from poor songbook selections by the producers. There are a […]
