Rob Bell during his sermon “Calling all Peacemaker’s” said (and I am paraphrasing here) ……..

“I am proud to be an American. I mean life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, brilliant. But I am first and foremost not a citizen of America. I am a citizen, as a Christian of the Kingdom of God. And when my citizenship in the kingdoms of man come in conflict with my citizenship of the Kingdom of God. I must as a follower of Jesus follow the Kingdom of God.”

“If your loyalty to the flag trumps your loyalty to the Cross. If you simply unflinchingly follow the flag without asking what is the truth of Jesus here, if you lose the ability to ask what is right and wrong - The scriptures have a word for this “Idolatry”. We thank God for our citizenship in America, but we are citizens of the World.”

Rob closed by co-opting a popular slogan - “These colors don’t run - the world” which I thought was brilliant.

I attended Airborne at Benning while I was in the Army and it was a good time. It was one of the few schools where they lifted you up (trying to get you to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft) rather than just beat you down. Though the jumps were always anticlimactic to me because of the static line and the 40 lb rucksack.
I much preferred Air Assault School and getting to rappell out of a Blackhawk after it just flew nap of the earth at a 100 knots. Talk about a good time!
You should have an amazing experience guys. My prayers will be with you, and I am encouraged by a Church taking Jesus “dangerously” - the Gospel is very dangerous - because it can change everything!

This experience promises to change you!! Seriously! It is one of the most incredible things I’ve ever done, AND I GET TO DO IT A SECOND TIME!!!! I am really excited about this. I can’t wait to share this experience with my fellow Second Chancers… If you’re not going, you’re really missing out!

When I was there for the movie on Saturday night I went in and spent some time praying within the building for the work that the Holy Spirit was going to do there. A blessing, and anointing over the mission that God has for you guys. I had a sense of collaboration, of a project for your community in the context of the greater community.

God has a project for 2nd Chance and I am so pleased to be watching the work of Jesus - As your well is just filled to capacity, and streams of life flow out, restoring, and renewing, and making things different. How they should be.

Mark,
I would love to get together and talk to you about prayer. About the powerful things that it is doing in lives of the people in our community.

God is resurrecting, renewing, and restoring your church. And in that He is creating a powerful story that connects your people to His story.

So often when people question me about faith instead of trying to argue the theological position for God, I simply tell them stories of people that I have journeyed with. Those stories define the living God better than any theologian could.

I keep hearing John 9:2 in my head.
“I was blind but now I see”

Prayer night was awesome! I really loved the intimacy of being able to pray with my new church family. The people at this church truly feel like family to me. I am so fired up about what God wants to do within walls of this church and in the lives of the church body. I came despite the fact that I have a terrible flu, and every moment of it was worth it! I left there and had a renewed spirit inside of an ill body. If I had listened to my flesh, I would have stayed home and had an ill spirit and an ill body! Something within me said “push through it and suck it up!”. Thank God that He gives us an inner voice to listen to in those times! Thanks for leading this night Coach Mark! I hope to have many more prayer nights in this church! I am so glad about the turn out last night and especially proud of the teenagers that showed up!
