Yeah, I know. I’ve already done my spiel about Favre. But being the huge football fan that I am, I just have to give you an instant replay of a great post on favre from another blog. A pastor by the name of Mark Wilson from the northwoods of Wisconsin had this to say about Brett:
1. He Showed up to Play Every Sunday - Regardless of what was happening in his life (i.e. his fathers death and his wife’s cancer), he still found a way to get to the game on time.
2. He Played Through the Hurts - I’ve watched just about every Packer game since Favre’s debut. I’ve seen him clobbered, hannered, hanstrung, smashed, and boggled. Yet, Brett kept getting back on his feet again. Remember the year when he played half a season with a broken thumb? Somehow, the desire for victory was far greater than the physical pain. There’s more to read by clicking on the link above, and I encourage you to take a few minutes to read the rest of this really well done post.
(And by the way….there might be a lesson or two in here for Christ followers, but let’s just keep that between us. Otherwise, people might not read it.)
Yesterday marked the end of an era. One of the greatest QBs to ever play in the NFL hung up his cleats for the last time. He was great because he played full-out. He left nothing in the tank and everything on the field. He played to win. There are many people in life that rather than playing to win, they play to avoid losing. Playing to win is an entirely different mindset, and it is what separates average performers from high performers. He was not afraid to take risks because he had no fear of losing. Losing was not the worst thing that could happen. Giving less than everything in order to win was. Read the full story
I may be slow, but I’m not stupid. When two people I respect, both recommend the same book to me in short order, I take notice. The most recent referral came from Brooke M. (thanks Brooke) who is absolutely committed to spreading the news of this book. The book is called “Save Me From Myself“, by Brian Welch, former lead guitarist for the hard rock band Korn.
In 2008, we’ve been stressing the need to seek out and find the “something more” that Jesus told us was available to us. In an earlier post, I shared an interview with Tom Brady (click here) when he appeared on Sixty Minutes. What was startling about the interview was his open admission that in spite of all his success, there must be something more.
Brian Welch, in the midst of living the “big life”, was struggling with the same question. But he has found the answers that Tom Brady is apparently still looking for. Watch this inspiring, convicting piece of video. Then call a friend and send them this way too.
In my previous post about the Super Bowl, I touched on the game and lessons learned (I am after a all a football nut and a spiritual leader). However, I still love to watch the commercials during the game. USA Today came out with their annual listing of the top commercials from the game this morning. I think they gather viewers together and they score the commercials and then they average them all out to come up with the list. Here’s my list:
Favorite(came in 3rd on the USA list) - The Bridgestone ad where the squirrel ran out into the road and screamed when it was about to get hit by a car. I thought it was a hoot
Weirdest (24th USA list) - AMP Drink commercial where the tow truck driver stuck the jumper cables on himself. Very strange
Loudest Response by viewers in our house(9th USA) - Unibrow woman using peanuts as perfume
What the heck was that? (38th USA) - Career Builder’s commercial where a woman’s heart jumps out of her chest
Worst(bottom 5 USA) - tie; Audi ad of guy waking up in bed with a car grill under the sheets…I know it was a take-off of the Godfather, but it still made no sense to me; GMC Yukon, total waste of ad money
Movie I’m most anxious to see (based on SB commercials) - tie between “Wall-E” and “Leathernecks”
